The next day I was told something that made me grateful someone threw me a bone when I needed it. I had just set my stuff down at the empty spot in the dressing room, and I was blinking at Tiffany. “Could you repeat that?”
“The ex you were upset about and your date from Friday, the white knight, got arrested last night,” she told me. “Someone called the police, and they still didn’t break up the fight when they showed, and so they broke them up and brought them in. We were looking for you because we were worried.”
I burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I had to lean over on the counter. Wiping my eyes, I finally got myself under control. “No, I left when they started shoving. They didn’t even notice. Both were so busy trying to pee on me and get me to go with them, they practically ignored me and what I said. Oh fuck, that is like the best news I so needed.”
“I heard one was Aidan O’Malley,” someone said. “Someone recognized him at the station, but he wouldn’t confirm it.”
“I have no idea who that is,” I lied, blinking between them. “That’s not the name he gave me or the owner.” I shrugged when they gave me shocked looks. “I’m not all up on the gossip or celeb news. They’re all the same and not people I want to be around.”
Amber snorted. “Aidan O’Malley is certainly not the normal gazillionaire. He’s a huge advocate for supe rights and is a real philanthropist, not like the ones who just phone it in and sign a check now and again.”
And he’s an egotistical psycho stalker who won’t take no for an answer and scared the living fuck out of me. But still, I listened to her, not having heard this side of him, only what supes focused on which was his power and age.
“Two of his fancy, fancy restaurants in New York fund education programs for inner city kids all over the country,” she continued. “He caters it to the rich who want the boast of doing good but can’t be bothered to get involved. He treats any woman he’s with like a queen. Someone is always gushing about how generous and amazing he is in one interview or another.”
Oh it was so, so hard not to tell them the truth. Generous, fine, maybe… As long as he had them wear a tracker like his fucking dog and were available for whenever he said. I wondered if they got treats if they did tricks too.
She kept going, and even I had to admit he did a lot of good with that money. I definitely liked his restaurant a lot more knowing all of the income went to charity.
My phone beeped, and I pulled it out, seeing it was a text from my contact, Tracey.
